The Arrival

Christmas 2002 saw a major change from previous years in which this particular church had done a traditional "hanging of the green" service. The 2002 program included music, video and drama--but no hanging of the green. I decided to rename the service and wanted something the suggested a mystery or the unexpected.

I came up with "The Arrival" as a phrase that was decidedly un-Christmas, and yet people could readily identify what we were talking about when they thought about it a moment. Indeed Christmas is about the arrival of God's Son, Jesus Christ.

The design of "The Arrival" consisted of a simple piece of clip art and a type treatment--a few hours' work. This is an example of how design does not have to be complicated to be effective.
