Gathering one year later to memorialize the tragedy of September 11, 2001, demanded a special image to capture a mood that was both solumn and optimistic at the same time. We chose the name "America Again" for this September 11, 2002 service. It was a reminder that we need God to command the center of our nation's attention--and that the events of September 11 brought out the core sense of courage and duty that is typical of our nation.
The image we chose for "America Again" was a rendering of the World Trade Center twin towers. A stock photograph of the New York City skyline was modified in Adobe Photoshop to make the towers glow as if they were being pulled toward heaven. The powerful photo itself became the promotional image for the service, as well as the program cover. We chose to put only a few words of scripture on the cover--Proverbs 18:11, which says, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."
To satisfy a demand from our members for copies of the scripture and Towers picture, we put a version on our website as a downloadable computer screen background. More than 5,000 people gathered on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at this church for the moving and memorable worship experience.
