Worship Gathering

Worship gathering refers to worship services or organized worship events, as opposed to personal worship that might occur apart from a community of believers. In Acts 2:42-43 we read of believers gathered together for "the breaking of bread," which refers to the Lord's Supper or Communion--their primary form of gathering for worship in their time. The precident for community worship is clear throughout the New Testament and has continued in various forms until today.

Worship gatherings today are typically comprised of two main elements; a musical or "praise" portion (which may also encompass other creative arts like drama, video and multimedia), and the teaching and preaching of God's Word.

We often use the term "worship service" to refer to a worship gathering. I also like the term "corporate worship" as it distinguishes personal worship from our activities as a body of believers.
