Retro

The revival of an earlier style that occurred in the recent past. Retro design is popular among artists and designers for two reasons. First, there is an established style from which elements can be drawn--the "look" already exists and the designer merely adds to or adapts the look based on their needs.

Secondly, a segment of the intended audience will identify with the retro style--they've seen it before and liked it. We've all had that pair of pants or shirt that went out of style and were surprised to find years later that it was "in" again.

One note about retro style is that it brings a predetermined look or stereotype with it. Often designers find it difficult to both adhere to the retro style and at the same time make it unique and different.
