Sometimes imagination can be ignited by something completely random. That's the function of the Random Word Generator. Use the Generator to make a random word, then use the tips in the yellow sidebar to spur your creative juices.

Did it work? Random input can sometimes lead to a creative breakthrough, but it is literally a roll of the dice. Random words work best with nouns--usually objects--which is what you'll find demonstrated on this page.

You can explore other random word options on your own, writing them on slips of paper and then drawing them out of a container. How about random emotional words like "love," "anger," "sadness," "melancholy," or "bitterness?" Or random adjectives like "happy," "truthful," "large," "ugly," or "merciful?" Try to come up with at least a couple dozen words in a category before picking them at random.

Try combinations of random words, like an object and an adjective, or an object and an emotion. There's literally no end to how many random thoughts you can generate.

Here are some ways to use random words creatively:

Look for similarities between the word and the project or challenge you are working on.

Replace an object or objective in your project with the word and think about what would happen.

Think about principles behind the random word and how they might apply to your project or challenge.

Put the random word at the center of your project and think about what you would do if your solution revoved around the word or object.

Dare to daydream as you think about other words associated with the random word and expand your brainstorming to additional words.
