Routine
One of the biggest drains on your thinking is routine--doing the same thing the same way, day after day. It gets so ingrained, you don't even think about it at all. Stretch your brain by breaking with routine in various areas of your life.
Travel a new route to work. Take a wrong turn on purpose. Find a route to the office, to school or back home that you've never taken before. What about that road over there? Where does it lead? Forget the shortcuts. Take the long way and look for something interesting on the way.

Do things out of order today. Do you normally take a shower, then eat breakfast? How about doing that in reverse? When you get to work, do you check email early and meet later? How about meeting first, and saving the email for later in the day? Simple changes in your daily pattern can help you break the routine.
Shop at a new store. Next time at the mall, hit the stores you always pass by. Don't have a pet? Go to the pet store anyway. Browse the stores you have no interest or need for. Try a candle store. Or how about a luggage store? What about the music box store? Two stores you should never skip--The Sharper Image and The Discovery Channel Store. Ideas about in stores--remember that shopping is not all about buying things.
Eat with the other hand. You'd be surprised how hard this is. It makes you concentrate on your food. Does it taste different eating from the other hand? Well, find out. Then try writing with your other hand and drawing with your other hand.
