About the "Ornament" Design
Here I was touching on my recurring theme of light in logo design by giving the abstract look of the sun. The curved rays themselves form the shape of the sun--and also suggest a multi-pointed star. The individual curved rays make a pleasant circular pattern suggesting clockwise motion. The advantage of such a logo for a church is that it is pleasant but gives no preformed judgment as to its purpose. The weakness, of course, is that its lack of spiritual depth could just as easily be used for a hotel chain or a Chinese restaurant. Oddly the complex design does work well in small applications.
Suggested Colors and Typefaces
Color selections (spot colors based on Pantone uncoated color selector): Pantone Red 032U and 1935U. Process color options can be explored using the available Layered Photoshop File (PSD).
Typeface Used: Palatino by Linotype (Click here for purchasing information). A wonderful mid-twentieth-century face, Palatino is equally at home as a text face and as a display face. I especially like the slightly curved tops and bottoms of the capital letter forms, which give the all-caps appearance of the font a graceful edge.
